Arthrosamid - What is it & how it works

Transcript

Arthrosamid is a relatively newer injectable treatment for knee osteoarthritis that works in a fundamentally different way from other options. In this video, I explain how it works and what kind of results you can expect from treatment. When the synovial lining of the knee joint is damaged through osteoarthritis - the knee loses its ability to manage swelling after activity. Over time, this can lead to a loss of function and increased pain. Once injected into the joint, Arthrosamid helps to restore this lining, easing the swelling and pain that limits movement. Arthrosamid is injected into the knee joint under ultrasound guidance. This is similar to other injections such as steroid, hyaluronic acid or PRP, which you may have had yourself or heard about from others. Once injected, Arthrosamid integrates into the synovium, the lining of the joint. This stable integration increases the elasticity of the joint tissue, helping it behave more like healthy tissue again, becoming softer and more flexible. This can lead to improved joint function and long-lasting pain relief. Arthrosamid works through a biological process, so it takes time for the body to respond. In my experience, this is four to six weeks for early responders, and three months for normal responders. This is a different timeline compared to other injection options. The main effects of Arthrosamid may take up to three months to develop fully in some patients. Younger patients often notice improvement sooner, while older patients may take a little longer, as the biology works at its own pace. Published research on Arthrosamid shows long-lasting effects. I tell patients they can typically expect two to five years of benefit from a single treatment, which may be repeated. And some patients experience relief for longer. Data covering fourteen years of follow-up is expected to be published soon, adding to our understanding of its effectiveness. I have collected extensive outcome data on the patients I have treated with Arthrosamid, and I am happy to share this at your consultation. In well selected patients with structured rehabilitation, I have consistently found it to be well tolerated, with high patient satisfaction for knee osteoarthritis. Thank you for watching. If you would like to find out whether Arthrosamid could be right for your knee, please contact my practice directly. Please also watch the next video; as this covers whether Arthrosamid is right for you.
