Arthrosamid - Is it right for me?

Transcript

Arthrosamid is not suitable for every patient, and a thorough clinical assessment is always carried out before treatment is recommended. It may not be appropriate where there is active infection in the joint, or where significant joint damage is better managed with surgery Arthrosamid can suit a wide range of people with knee osteoarthritis. This includes those in their forties with patello-femoral changes, behind the kneecap It includes those in their fifties with medial compartment changes, on the inner side of the knee. And it includes patients in their sixties and beyond, with osteoarthritis across more of the joint. What these patients tend to share is a desire to stay physically active. They want to maintain their quality of life for as long as possible, without undergoing surgery. Rehabilitation alongside Arthrosamid is important. After the injection, I recommend structured, bespoke rehabilitation, starting with physiotherapy, to achieve the best possible outcome. The best results come from a multidisciplinary team - meaning experienced clinicians from different fields working together. I usually start by recommending a leading experienced physiotherapist - then building up your activity over time to improve the strength, and function of the knee. I design bespoke rehabilitation plans around the activities you want to return to; and these have included: Walking; Padel; Golf; Tennis and Skiing. Arthrosamid is one important part of that plan. The rehabilitation after the injection is what helps you get the most from your treatment. Arthrosamid can also play an important role for patients who may eventually need knee replacement surgery. By improving your strength and function now, you may be in a better position to achieve a good surgical outcome if that step becomes necessary. It is also important to say that Arthrosamid does not prevent you from having knee surgery in the future. If the effect does begin to reduce over time, further injections are possible. This is something I discuss with each patient individually, based on how they have responded and their ongoing goals. If you would like to find out whether Arthrosamid could be right for your knee, I'd be happy to discuss it with you. You can email me today to book a consultation, and together we can talk through what treatment approach might suit you best.
